PlayStation 3 Slim Photos Leaked?

Posted by Jake Gaskill - Thursday, May 14, 2009 10:21 AM

PlayStation 3 Slim Photos Leaked?

As you’ve no doubt heard, today has been a pretty rough one for Sony. Although on the plus side, the PlayStation 3 does have a new firmware update, and the latest rumors flying around the Interwebworks point to a possible PS3 Slim in the works. So you know...There's that.

These “leaked” production photos appear to show a PS3 that has been squashed flat (possibly by a standard PS3, but we're still waiting for confirmation on that), being examined by mysterious white-gloved hands on what looks like a fake putting green.

Modern Warfare 2--- 11/10/09 release date

Early copies of next month's Game Informer reveal new Special Forces mode, Russian terrorist adversaries; longer single-player, co-op campaign ruled out.

Less than two days after the first gameplay footage of Modern Warfare 2 aired, the first hard details about the Activision game have emerged. Game Informer has teased its June issue, which will focus on the sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the critically lauded first-person shooter that has now sold more than 13 million units worldwide.

According to advance copies of the GameStop-owned magazine, Modern Warfare 2 will be set several years after its predecessor. Once again, political instability inside a fictional near-future Russia threatens the world--this time, in the form of a terrorist organization hinted at by a March teaser trailer. One of COD4's two heroes, Sergeant "Soap" MacTavish, has been promoted to captain in the Special Air Services (SAS), Britain's equivalent of the US Navy SEALs. Now part of a new commando unit, MacTavish will guide players through a series of grueling missions, including an ice-climbing infiltration of a frozen Russian army base.

In terms of gameplay, Modern Warfare 2 will address the issue of infinitely spawning enemies, a major criticism of the original game. However, those looking for a single-player campaign longer than the original's 6-10 hours are out of luck. "Stretching out the story seems like the wrong way to go," Infinity Ward CCO and president Jason West told Game Informer.

The game boasts a new "Special Forces" mode that is similar to the Mile High Club, the ultradifficult airplane-hijack level unlocked after watching the end credits of the original game in their entirety. However, the cooperative campaign that many had hoped would be in Modern Warfare 2 is MIA. "We did a whole lot of co-op stuff early on that we were interested in, and it didn’t work with the story at all," West said.

For more details about Modern Warfare 2 and new screenshots of the game, pick up the June issue of Game Informer.

 SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Confrontation

A new patch (1.30) has been announced for Confrontation.  Here's the skinny:

SOCOM: Confrontation didn't launch with Trophies; instead, it shipped with a lot of bugs. Slant Six even admits that "the launch was pretty rough on all of us." However, with patch 1.20 already out fixing a majority of the problem issues and a 1.30 patch coming soon, things are turning around.

In fact, the much coveted Trophy support is said to arrive in the upcoming 1.30 patch, among other new features. You can find a list of all the new features and bug fixes for the new update after the break. The crew notes, however, "that some items listed may be delayed to a following update if additional development is required beyond what our schedule for the 1.30 update allows." That means, don't take it as a 100 percent guarantee.

New Features

* SOCOM Awards and PSN Trophies
* DTS audio support
* Add HUD and scoreboard opacity
* Scoreboard invocation improvements (tap select for persistent scoreboard, hold for temporary)
* Spectator mode HUD turns off after brief interval

* Gear items stackable
* Extend post-round period
* Restrict RPGs and grenade launchers in ranked rooms
* Increase prone movement speed
* Adding support for lefty control configuration (analog stick functions swapped)
* Increase frag grenade effectiveness
* Prevent incorrect reload interruptions

Bug Fixes

* Fix animation issue when prone rolling near certain objects.
* Fix remaining issues with statistics gathering and display
* Fix bugs related to equipping of C4 in breach mode
* Fix occasional audio drop outs
* Fix last remaining framerate hitch when other clients late join
* Fix remaining stability issues
* Fix hostages being affected by smoke

Sounds good to me!  No timetable on the release, however.

 SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Confrontation

The game came out with quite a few bugs.  A patch labeled 1.2 was released on October 29th that seemed to fix all the connectivity issues.  The game is running well now and Slant Six Games is currently working on getting all of the features in the game working properly.  Game play is a blast, however.  Good game so far and the clan is looking forward to all of the functionality of the new features being restored.

    SOCOM 3 and SOCOM: Combined Assault Update

    NEW SOCOM 3 AND SOCOM CA MAP PACK RELEASED... FOR FREE!

    Hot off the presses, a new downloadable map pack has just been released for SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault.  This is the third downloadable map pack released for the two titles.  This new downloadable map pack includes the classic SOCOM and SOCOM II maps Crossroads, Fishhook, Frostfire and Guidance.

    Crossroads is a SOCOM II urban map based in North Africa.  Crossroads consistently ranks as the most popular classic SOCOM map and a next generation version of Crossroads will be featured in SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation.  It is playable in a day or night setting with up to 16 players in Suppression, Demolition and Control gametypes.

    Fishhook is a SOCOM II map based on a seaside North African village. It is playable with up to 16 players in a day or night setting in Suppression, Extraction, Control and Breach gametypes.

    Frostfire is a SOCOM map which features an oil drilling platform off of the coast of Alaska.  It is playable in a day or night setting with up to 16 players in Suppression, Control and Demolition gametypes.

    Guidance is a SOCOM II map which features an ex-soviet military base in Russia.  It is playable in a day or night setting with up to 16 players in Suppression, Demolition and Control gametypes.

    The price of the new map pack, FREE!  In fact, we are making all three of the SOCOM 3 and SOCOM CA Downloadable Map Packs free from this point forward.  This is no April Fools joke. We want to give something back to all of the fans who have stuck with us all of this time.

    This is a great opportunity to get your Crossroads fix in before SOCOM Confrontation is released on the PLAYSTATION®3 this September.  It will also give you a good opportunity to see first hand how far SOCOM has come with the latest PS3™ installment.  After playing both versions, there is no way I can go back.  Experiencing Crossroads in SOCOM Confrontation on the PS3 is like experiencing it again for the first time.  While the layout is instantly familiar to anyone who has spent hundreds of hours playing Crossroads in SOCOM II, the level of detail which is achieved on the PS3 makes it a whole new experience.

    2/27/08 - SOCOM Confontation from Wikipedia

    SOCOM: Confrontation is an online-only third person tactical shooter video game for the PlayStation 3 and is the sequel for the previous games SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs, SOCOM Combined Assault and SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs. The game is being developed by Slant Six Games which is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is being published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The game will support 32 players and will be sold both on the PlayStation 3's online store and on a Blu-ray Disc with a Bluetooth headset. SOCOM: Confrontation was initially scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2007. [2] The game is now set to release June 15, 2008, according to 1up.com [3] SCEA's Scott Steinberg confirmed a summer release for Confrontation at the recent GDC. "SOCOM: Confrontation shipping in the summer. SOCOM is also one of those emblematic PlayStation brands." [4] The game was first announced at the SCEA's Gamers Day at their Santa Monica Studios.

    Luisi announced that there are five different North African themed maps including Socom II: U.S. Navy Seals famous "Crossroads." Slant Six has no plans at this time to include vehicles as it wants the maps to be more "intimate" instead of large maps.[citation needed].

    Zipper Interactive, the developers of all previous SOCOM titles, are also working on their own installment for the PlayStation 3. Unlike Confrontation, it will feature both single player and mutiplayer modes, and the extra development time will also give them the opportunity to work on new features for the game.

    • Available on the Playstation Network and in retail stores on a standard Blu-Ray disc
    • Weapons will remain customizable much like they were in SOCOM 3: scopes, foregrips, suppressors, bipods, etc
    • GameSpot reports that environments in SOCOM: Confrontation will be 95% destructible[citation needed]
    • Ultimate 32-player online combat experience featuring stunning high-definition visuals, YO advanced physics, ballistics, impact and destruction modeling
    • Rich interactive and destructible environments (i.e. shell casings can bounce off environment and make noise when stepped on or kicked)
    • Full support of the SIXAXIS™ wireless controller, offering greater control
    • Choice of playing as various International Special Forces
    • Advanced voice communication systems
    • Detailed audio system will make use of occlusion- if someone is fighting around a corner, you can hear it

    2/26/08 - Over Two Years Later

    You've seen from the Home page that we're playing new games on different systems.  I'll try to keep both systems updated with games we might be interested and such.  On the PS3 front, SOCOM Confrontation is slated to come out in June.  This game will include versions of our favorite maps from SOCOM 2.  It's emphasis is on smaller map gameplay, unlike SOCOM 3.  I think that will make most of us happy.  I'll try to post something official when I can.

    2/22/06 - Thanks to HEHATEME1161 for this report (from email):

    February 21, 2006 - SCEA announced today that the first map packs for SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs will be available for download starting in March 2006. Each SOCOM 3 Map Pack will retail for $5.99 and can be purchased online using a SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs online account. Players will be able to download and store each pack using a USB storage device such as a flash or thumb drive, the PS2 hard drive or a PSP with a memory stick containing at least 32 MB of memory.

    According to Seth Luisi, "SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs Map Packs allows for the millions of SOCOM fans to experience updated versions of their favorite maps from earlier SOCOM titles or take on competitors in all-new environments simply by purchasing and downloading the SOCOM 3 Map Packs from their SOCOM 3 online account. With the release of the SOCOM 3 Map Packs, the SOCOM franchise will expand with even more online environments, adding to the SOCOM experience you can only get on PlayStation platforms."

    The first map pack will feature an updated version of the SOCOM II maps After Hours, Last Bastion and Liberation. These redesigned maps will host SOCOM 3 features such as multiple game types, respawn points, weapon customization and day and night play options. Future map packs are scheduled over the next couple of months and will revisit classic SOCOM maps as well as new SOCOM 3 environments.

    2/17/06 - Dragoonist has informed me that he has joined the Marines.  Personally, this is disappointing to me for two reasons.  First and foremost, now I have to worry about a friend putting himself in harm's way and secondly, because I won't see him around on SOCOM as much.  Good luck to "goonie" and stay safe, man.

    We'll just have to wait and see how that works out.  I'll be interested in the USB storage devices that they talk about because I don't have a HDD.  Plus, I've got the slim PS2.  Like I said, this should be interesting.

    2/17/06 - From the SOCOM3 Website (2/17/06)

    SOCOM 3 Update (Patch)
    We are in final testing on the next SOCOM 3 1.4 update (patch).  This update will address many outstanding issues including rank up exploits and the "spectator glitch".  More details will be released when the SOCOM 3 1.4 update is finalized.

    Spectator Glitch
    A fix for the "spectator glitch" will be included in the next SOCOM 3 update, which will be released soon.  In the meantime, any player we observe to be using the spectator glitch will be banned, as setforth in the Online User Agreement.  We are watching.

    Rank Ups
    We have several fixes to address the rank up issue in the next SOCOM 3 update.  More details will be released when the SOCOM 3 1.4 update is finalized.

    SOCOM 3 Online Team

    1/16/06 - Props to HOTHEAD and CHI-BEAR for actively recruiting.  They've gotten 76thMOOSE to join the roster along with some of his clan members.  MOOSE has told me it could be 6 or 7 in all, so that will be a great addition to the team.

    1/16/06 - From the SOCOM3 Website (1/12/06)

    The SOCOM 3 weekly update was suspended over the holidays, Happy New Year!

    The SOCOM 3 1.3 Update (Patch) was released on 1/4/06.  The SOCOM 3 team worked through the holidays to address a couple of urgent issues that were not addressed in the SOCOM 3 1.2 update.  Other issues will be addressed in a future update.

    The SOCOM 3 1.3 update resolves the following issues:

    Resolved an issue where your rank would not appear and you could not join ranked games.
    Resolved an issue where the incorrect team would receive a forfeit if the other team did not show up in the Clan Challenges.

    Incorrect Disconnect Stats
    We are actively looking into the issue where disconnect stats are being reported incorrectly.

    Rank Ups
    We are still working on addressing the rank up issue.  Again, this is a complicated issue to address but it is one that we are actively working to resolve.

    SOCOM 3 Online Team

    1/4/05 - For those of you who don't know him, DAWG. changed his name to HOTHEAD.  It was actually his original SOCOM 2 name, so it's good to see him back with it.

    * SOCOM Awards and PSN Trophies
    * DTS audio support
    * Add HUD and scoreboard opacity
    * Scoreboard invocation improvements (tap select for persistent scoreboard, hold for temporary)

    * Restrict RPGs and grenade launchers in ranked rooms
    * Increase prone movement speed
    * Adding support for lefty control configuration (analog stick functions swapped)
    * Increase frag grenade effectiveness
    * Prevent incorrect reload interruptions

    Bug Fixes

    * Fix animation issue when prone rolling near certain objects.
    * Fix remaining issues with statistics gathering and display
    * Fix bugs related to equipping of C4 in breach mode
    * Fix occasional audio drop outs
    * Fix last remaining framerate hitch when other clients late join
    * Fix remaining stability issues

    SOCOM 3 1.3 Update

    1/4/05 - For those of you who don't know him, DAWG. changed his name to HOTHEAD.  It was actually his original SOCOM 2 name, so it's good to see him back with it.
